February 10, 2010 Wolves at Heart Children's Art Contest
Goodnight Trail Gallery, Artisans of Mancos, and Mancos merchants present the Wolves at Heart Children’s Art Contest, judged by artist Karen Kristen for cash prizes and a grand prize dog sled ride. Children 5-17 may enter canine-related art in any medium on a piece of paper 9x12 inches or smaller. Include name, age, and phone on the back. Take your artwork to Artisans of Mancos at Grand & Main open 9-5 Mon-Saturday; 9-1 Sundays. Entry deadline is February 10, 5pm. February 13, Book Signing with Local Author, Connie Gotsch
1-3PM at Goodnight Trail Gallery, Main & Grand, downtown Mancos. Award-winning author Connie Gotsch's new novel, Belle's Star is written from a dog's point of view. The story follows Belle, a young dog who has never met a kind human, as she is rescued by a young girl named Darcy. February 13, Mancos Dog Parade
Dog Parade begins at 2pm. Parade Starts at Mancos Elementary, proceeds through downtown Mancos. Prizes awarded for Most Beautiful, Best Look-Alike with Owner, Craziest Costume, Funniest, Best Trick, Biggest Dog, and Smallest Dog. February 13, Li'l Kids and Pets Sled Pull
3PM Boyle Park, Downtown Mancos. We supply the plastic sleds & harnesses. You supply the supervising adult, little kid and pet dog. Dog must weigh as much or more than the child it is pulling. Supervising adult may do anything to get the dog to pull the child across the park, except adult may NOT touch the dog (nor drag the dog on a leash). Colorado Mountain Mushers presents “Pretty Sled Dogs.” Join Grover and the Pretty Sled Dogs of North Wapiti Kennel as they take musher Karen Ramstead on an adventure to the Idiatrod Trail Sled Dog Race. More than just a pretty face, these dogs show us just what it takes to race to Nome. 90 minutes. Rated PG. $5 for adults & kids over 12. $1 ages 5-12. Under 5 free. TENTATIVE End of September Dry Land Race
Boggy Draw, Dolores, Colorado. Two days of walking/running, bike-joring, scootering, and dog-carting on the beautiful trails of Boggy Draw under the Ponderosa pines at 8000'elevation. Ample free, primitive camping on site (OK for RV's), and only 3-miles to Dolores which offers lodging, groceries, gas, and dining.
